GOVERNOR TO MAKE WENDELL THE STATE’S
FEBRUARY ‘CAPITAL FOR A DAY’

(BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced today that the Gooding County community of Wendell will be Idaho’s “Capital for a Day” on Friday, February 27th.

The first-come, first-served open opportunity to meet with the Governor, selected members of the Governor’s Cabinet, and other senior state officials is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wendell High School auditorium, 750 E. Main Street in Wendell. The Governor also will join Mayor Rick Cowen and other state and local leaders for a no-host noon luncheon at the Wendell High School cafeteria.

Among the state officials who will join Governor Otter at Capital for a Day are State Schools Superintendent Tom Luna; Margie Gonzalez of the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs; Department of Insurance Director Bill Deal; State Tax Commission Chairman Royce Chigbrow; Department of Correction Director Brent Reinke; Department of Agriculture Director Celia Gould; Devin Rigby, District 4 engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department; Idaho Department of Fish and Game Regional Supervisor Jerome Hansen; Idaho Fish and Game Commission member Wayne Wright; Idaho State Police Capt. Ked Wills; Chris Orders, manager of the Twin Falls, Burley and Blaine County local offices for the Idaho Department of Labor; Brent Tolman, Region IV Workforce Development Alliance executive director for the Idaho Department of Labor; Tim Duffner, area supervisor for the Idaho Department of Lands; and Allen Merritt, manager of the Southern Regional Office for the Department of Water Resources.

“CAFOs and animal welfare, charter schools and other education matters, and perhaps most of all water – all these issues and many others resonate with the people of Wendell and Gooding County,” Governor Otter said. “It’s right off Interstate 84, but for too many people Wendell is to southern Idaho what Idaho is to folks on the east and west coasts – fly-over country. Well, I’m driving to Wendell, and I look forward to hearing what the local people have to say. I hope they will turn out to give my Cabinet and me an earful.”
