MACKAY TO HOST JULY “CAPITAL FOR A DAY” (BOISE) – Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter announced today that the Custer County community of Mackay will be Idaho’s next “Capital for a Day” on Thursday, July 16th. The first-come, first-served open opportunity to meet with the Governor and First Lady Lori Otter, selected members of the Governor’s Cabinet, and other senior state officials is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the South Custer Fire District hall, located at 105 Cedar Street in Mackay. The Governor also will join Mayor Otto Higbee, other state and local leaders, and community members for a no-host noon lunch at the children’s park located on the corner of Pine and Elm streets in Mackay. Lunch will cost $10 per person. The Governor also will join Doug Sayer, president of Premier Technology, Inc., and state and local leaders at 3 p.m. for a groundbreaking ceremony at the new technology park in Mackay. Officials joining Governor Otter at Capital for a Day will include Don Dietrich, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce; Dick Armstrong, director of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare; Colonel Bill Shawver, director of the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security; Nate Fisher, administrator of the Governor’s Office of Species Conservation; Mark Browning, communications director for the State Board of Education; Blake Rindlisbacher, District 6 Engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department; Garth Taylor, eastern region manager for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR); Steve Frost, IDPR Outdoor Recreation Bureau chief; Erick Neher, regional administrator for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality; Captain Danny Bunderson, Region 6 commander for the Idaho State Police; Darrell Wilde of the Idaho Tax Commission; Rogelio (Roy) Valdez, deputy director of field operations for the Idaho Department of Labor; Wade Virgin with the Idaho Department of Labor; Tom Bassista with the Idaho Department of Water Resources eastern region office; Jason Hancock, deputy chief of staff for the State Department of Education; Garry Lough, communications director for the Idaho Education Network; Steve Schmidt, regional supervisor of the Upper Snake Region for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG); and Jim Lukens, Salmon Region supervisor for IDFG. “Mackay is everything I look for in a ‘Capital for a Day’ location. It’s rural, remote from traditional centers of commerce and government, and it’s home to folks with some great perspectives on where we are and where we ought to be headed,” Governor Otter said. “It’s our job in state government to ensure that the people of Mackay, and communities like it all over Idaho, have a real say in determining their own future. That’s why we’ll be there on July 16th – to listen, learn, and solve some problems if we can.”
