GOVERNOR’S CUP SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
ANNOUNCED (BOISE) – Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter today announced the 19 recipients of this year’s Governor’s Cup Scholarships to Idaho colleges and universities. Recipients were chosen from among more than 700 applicants by the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund Inc.’s 13-member board of directors. Selections were based on each applicant’s commitment to public service, academic achievement and community involvement. The number of scholarships awarded is based on the availability of funds. Record fund-raising during the past year resulted in the awarding of eight more scholarships than in 2008. The award is $3,000 per year, renewable for up to four (4) years, or two to three (2-3) years for professional-technical programs, contingent upon the availability of funds. Here are this year’s recipients, along with their high school and the school they plan to attend in the fall:
“It’s a great privilege to lead such a worthwhile program that benefits not only Idaho students and their families, but also our communities and our entire state,” Governor Otter said. “Among these recipients are our future doctors, engineers, poets and scientists. They are the entrepreneurs and innovators who will create our jobs; the leaders who will protect our way of life; and most importantly of all they are the architects of their own destinies. The more of these young people we can keep here at home, the better off we all will be. I’m proud that the Governor’s Cup Scholarship program can help.” The Governor also thanked the generous sponsors. “Without them, none of this would be possible,” he said. This year’s “premier” and major sponsors were: • Qwest – Premier Sponsor A reception honoring the recipients is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, June 12, in the 2nd Floor Courtroom at the Borah Building, 8th and Bannock streets in Boise. ### |
