FRANKLIN TO HOST JUNE “CAPITAL FOR A DAY”

(BOISE) – Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter announced today that the Franklin County community of Franklin will be Idaho’s “Capital for a Day” on Thursday, June 25th.

The first-come, first-served open opportunity to meet with the Governor, selected members of his Cabinet, and other senior state officials is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LDS Church located at 106 E. Main Street in Franklin. The Governor also will join Mayor Wayne Priestley, other state and local leaders, and community members for lunch at the same location.

Officials joining Governor Otter at Capital for a Day will include Roger Madsen, director of the Idaho Department of Labor; Don Dietrich, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce; Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna; Bill Deal, director of the Idaho Department of Insurance; Kim Toryanski, administrator of the Commission on Aging; Captain Eric Daley, region commander for the Idaho State Police; Mike Helppie, deputy director of sales for the Idaho Lottery; Ernest Carlsen, water resources program manager for the eastern regional office of the Department of Water Resources; Darrell Wilde of the Idaho Tax Commission; Pat Brown, area supervisor for the Idaho Department of Lands; Bruce Olenick, regional administrator for the Department of Environmental Quality; Ed Bala, District 5 engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department; John Hathaway, regional director for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare; Mark Gamblin, regional supervisor for the Department of Fish and Game; and Virgil Moore, deputy director of the Department of Fish and Game; and Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Randy Budge.

“As the first permanent settlement in Idaho, Franklin is rich in history and the civic pride is evident,” Governor Otter said. “This old town, set in a beautiful farming and ranching area near the Bear River Mountains, has a unique set of issues being so close to the Utah line. I look forward to hearing from the people of Franklin County about their hopes and their concerns, and what role state government can play in making the future even brighter.”
